THE ORIGINS OF Wild Bob

Wild Bob's Musical Book Club started in June 2014 with the book Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. Unsure at the time whether the book club would continue past this inaugural show, we simply named it after a briefly-mentioned but memorable character from the book.

In Slaughterhouse Five, Wild Bob is a sickly army officer Billy Pilgrim meets while a prisoner of war. Having lost his regiment, delirious from pneumonia, and nearing the end of his life, he mistakes Billy for one of his own. His parting exclamation to Billy, "If you're ever in Cody, Wyoming, just ask for Wild Bob!" becomes something of a catch-phrase that Billy repeats throughout the book.

The book club proved successful, transcending its original status as a one-off show, but the name has stuck with us.
